JWitt Waste Recycling is already well known as a waste innovator – having been the first waste handler to establish a dedicated food waste collection service in Bath and invest in its own waste cleaning plant. Investment in the Advetec XO22 is the latest pioneering move from JWitt as a forward-thinking waste business.

Advetec’s brief when partnering with JWitt was to help us offer a more sustainable and carbon-friendly alternative to incineration for its customers. By halving the mass of unrecyclable waste and turning it into Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) – We are able to help customers accelerate their own green plans and benefiting the circular economy.

An real alternative to incineration
Advetec is an environmental biotechnology company that specializes in reducing the environmental impact of unrecyclable waste. Originally based in Wiltshire, the company has clients around the world. The XO’s technology allows us to create a valuable product out of contaminated waste streams that would otherwise end up in landfills or low-level incinerators. With the help of this XO technology, We are be able to waste that cannot be recycled due to organic contamination into Solid Recover Fuel (SRF), which can replace coal in cement kilns. This is a vital step in helping to decarbonize the industry and local communities alike.
The technology in the XO combines robust engineering with bio-stimulants to rapidly digest organic matter and turn contaminated waste into high-quality alternative fuel. SRF is a high-quality alternative to fossil fuel produced from mainly commercial and industrial waste. On average every tonne of coal can be replaced by 2 tonnes of SRF. This means that with the XO technology it enables us as a regional waste handler, and the customers and business that we service, access green technology that helps reduce waste at a local level and make a positive impact on a larger scale.

Sustainability is at the heart of this project, decarbonising waste from over 1,000 local businesses. The output from the XO22 at Coleford will replace coal at a cement kiln contributing to the circular economy and reducing carbon emissions.
