Skips | J Witt Waste Recycling

All those frequently asked questions (FAQs) about our skip hire service

Asbestos, liquids such as paints, oils, greases, solvents, fuels and lubricants, lithium batteries, gas bottles and canisters. If you have any Mattresses, fridges, freezers, tyres and old TVs, upholstered furniture (Sofas and armchairs), these can be disposed of, although these items all attract an additional charge to cover the work required to recycle them. Ask our customer services team for a full list of what can and can’t go in a skip and for details on additional charges.

Yes. Skips hired just for green waste, plasterboard, plate glass, soil & stone constitutes, brick and rubble are charged at a cheaper rate and are charged by the tonne. Speak to our customer services about these charges and the materials you want to recycle.

All skip hire prices include two weeks rental. If you require the skip for longer than this, there is a small rental charge of £12.00 a week thereafter.

You can fill the skip up to the top of the sides of the skip. This is called a ‘level load’ and some of our skips have this clearly marked. Do not pile the skip up above this, else we cannot transport it safely.

We will not come back and collect any skip until you have rung the JWitt office to book in your collection.

Your skip may be able to be placed on the road, however to do so it will require a Council highway permit from your local council and in some cases, you may also require a Parking Bay Suspension through your council before the skip can be placed on the road. Our customer services team can help you understand which permits and licenses are required.

If you want to place the skip on a road instead of on a drive or in a front garden, you will need a council highway permit.

If you are within the boundaries of the Bath & North East Somerset, Mendip and South Somerset councils, we will apply for a council highway permit on your behalf. These vary from £75 to £105 for a four week period. We will need five working days / a week’s notice to secure your permit for you.

If the road outside your residential or commercial property is a permit holders only controlled parking zone, you will need a parking bay suspension. You will need to apply for this with your local council at least one week ahead of when your skip will be delivered. The cost for these is around £40 for the first day and then £10 for everyday after that. Chat to our customer services team about this. They will be able to guide you through the process.

We try and do next day delivery where we can but this is not always possible. Call our customer services team ASAP to find out. If a skip license or a parking suspension is required, then you will need at least five working day’s notice to get those sorted before a skip is delivered.

Our customer services team will ask you a few key questions to understand what size skip you may need and when we can deliver a skip to you. It is very helpful and makes the process much quicker if you have the answers to these to hand when you call. The questions are:

Where do you want the skip delivered?

Will your skip be on or off the road?

What are you going to put in it?

How much waste do you have? Think about how many bin bags or is it a house / office clearance, building demolition?

What size do you think you need? See our handy skip sizes here

We can deliver and collect on any working day. We do not deliver or collect on weekends, bank holidays or UK national holidays.

We try to always deliver skips within two time slots:

Morning: 7am to 11am

Afternoon: 12 noon to 3pm

We are happy to match and beat quotes for skip hire. Please contact our customer services team and send through the quote you have received.

Yes we do. Our wait and load skips are placed on the road behind our lorry and remain attached to them. You will then have 30 minutes to fill the skip before it is put back on the lorry and taken away. Speak to our customer services team about this service.
